Features:

  • Precipitation-hardening stainless steel with excellent combination of high strength, good corrosion resistance, and toughness.
  • Offers a wide range of mechanical properties depending on heat treatment conditions.
  • Provides good resistance to corrosion in a variety of environments, including mild atmospheres, freshwater, and some corrosive chemicals.
  • Exhibits high strength and hardness levels suitable for applications requiring robust performance, such as aerospace components, shafts, and gears.
  • Can be machined in the annealed condition, but achieves maximum properties after precipitation hardening treatment.
  • Offers good weldability using standard techniques and can be easily heat treated to achieve desired mechanical properties.

Heat Treatment:

  • Annealing: Heat to 1010-1095°C (1850-2000°F), followed by air cooling or rapid cooling to below 16°C (60°F) to avoid precipitation of chromium carbides.
  • Precipitation Hardening: Heat to 482-593°C (900-1100°F) for 1-4 hours, followed by air cooling or rapid cooling to room temperature.
  • Aging: Optional aging treatment at lower temperatures (e.g., 21-232°C or 70-450°F) to further improve mechanical properties.
